My Story

I am so glad you are here! Let me introduce myself.

I am based in beautiful Surrey, but I will always be a Belfast girl at heart, born and bred in Northern Ireland. I am blessed with a busy household of 3 teenage boys and two dogs.

After working in London organising events, I followed a dream and worked for many happy years as a qualified vet nurse and a APDT and APBC registered dog trainer.

Recently life has thrown me a few curve balls, slowed me down and forced a change. I have chosen to use this new pace of life constructively, to observe the world around me, and use the forms and colours I see to create art.

I have been a serial peruser of art galleries and museums from my formative teenage years. I adored any time in the art studio at school, I was invited to display art projects I had produced for exams but I was not allowed to go to art college. So my love and appreciation of art was confined to a hobby.

I found my way to Durham University, the architecture and history of which I fell in love with instantly! I read Biological and Social Anthropology at St John’s College on the Bailey, and gained my degree. Studying biological anthropology allowed me to explore human behaviour from both an evolutionary and cultural perspective. Biological anthropology helped me to understand how our bodies, instincts and behaviours are shaped by evolution, environment and survival. Social anthropology explored how meaning, identity, and creativity are formed through culture, ritual and social relationships. Together these disciplines fed my long standing love of art and observation. They trained me to look at patterns, symbols, gestures and everyday behaviours - and to understand that nothing that humans create is accidental. Creation is both instinctive and imaginative. Art, is a response to our environment, our biology and our need to communicate, belong, and make meaning. This dual perspective deepened my fascination in how people express themselves visually and behaviourally. This continues to inform my creative work - where aesthetics, storytelling, and human connection sit at the centre.

Over the last few years, through learning and practising art and design, I have acquired many new skills, and met many wonderful people.

My work starts with a sketch or watercolour, often inspired by natural or historic pattern motifs, or drawn from my immediate surroundings. I also forage for flowers, leaves, and feathers, which I often incorporate into my designs.

My creative process doesn’t stop there, I scan and vectorise the painted and the foraged to build motifs and create unique patterns that can be used on any surface or textile. These can be repeating patterns or motifs to print.

I love to create painted designs on Fedora’s and Trilby’s, mainly as it brings two of my loves together, hats and art! Dive in to the gallery and take a look around a few of my projects.

I am an artist who truly believes that everyday objects can be elevated with art, bringing joy and meaning into our days.

Art has been my therapy and my healer.
